Yes, but...
I agree that the pricing is justified for the hardware, but people don't buy game systems for their specs (well most people at least). If they did the 3DO and Neo Geo would have been the top sellers in their respective console wars. People buy game systems for their content.
There is some decent content for the PS3, but obviously not enough to make the price of entry worth it (if it were, sales would be a lot better). I know that MGS4 and Killzone 2 should both be very cool, ... [read more]

You should really check your sources...
You should really check your sources before posting them. Since you didn't notice, that article was from 2005, and it was analysts predicting what the PS3 might cost (since it was not out in 2005). Obviously, this prediction was wrong and actually it looks like the holiday pricing for PS3 is as follows:
PS3 40GB unit (No Backwards Compatability): $399
PS3 80GB unit: $499
So they both won't be very close to the Wii price at all.

Check the source
There is a graph at the source I pointed to for my original argument and you can see that Gamecube and PS3's first 10 months have been simililar, and even the Gamecube sold more after 10 months. Here's the link again to the graph.
Granted, this is just the first 10 months, but it doesn't bode well for Sony to have their system sell this poorly early in its life cycle. Especially if they plan on being number 1 ... [read more]

PS3 is selling as bad as Gamecube did
Wow. I didn't know the PS3 was doing this bad. I'm sure the same people who said the Gamecube was a failure at 22 million systems sold will some how turn this around and say PS3 is succeeding. Such is Sony fanboyism...
From the article:
According to the NPD, a firm that tracks North American hardware sales, the PS3 sold 1,742,000 units in its first 10 months of availability compared with 2,120,000 GameCube units.

Confusing internet comments - "How many Wiis they sell doesn't determine how good the console is."
I'm confused. I keep seeing similar comments on the internets in response to the Wii surpassing the 360 in sales. Are people spending $250 on a console they think is bad?
No, of course not. People are buying the Wii because they think it is a good system. Now, if you think that it is not a good system, then you are in the minority. People speak louder with their wallets than with their words.

Sorry, but Sony's warranty record is worse than Microsoft's
Actually, Sony is just as bad, if not worse than Microsoft in video game machine quality. I worked as a Gamestop manager for many years, so I've seen the quality of product put out by all companies.
First there was the original Playstation. The first generation PS machine explicitly said in the manual not to play it for more then 30 minutes at a time or it may overheat. Then about 2 years after the launch, the original models ... [read more]

Pro: Nintendo Wii

Third party support wanted, but not necessary
Wii should have third-party support, but it sure doesn't “need” it to last. Granted, the N64 and Gamecube ended up third in their respective generations, but a third place position that made tons of profit is much better than landing in the red and giving up(Sega). Nintendo is making money on every console sold, while Sony continues to lose money on system sales. Nintendo is so incredibly financially sound and has so many game development resources ... In addition...
PS3 has been losing exclusives left and right. As you said GTA 4 will be released simultaneously for the 360, which is huge. Also, Devil May Cry 4 will no longer be a PS3 exclusive. It sounds like Metal Gear 4 will be released for both (probably not at the same time, but close). Final Fantasy will have multiple games on all consoles, so RPG fans won't be required to buy a PS3 to get their FF fix.

Finally, a hardware upgrade
It's about time Sony did something to help their not so hot PSP system gain some more traction. The big thing I would look for in a hardware refresh is internal flash memory. And maybe a second analog stick would be nice.

Pro: Are video games art?

Excellent points
As far as I'm concerned (as a gamer), video games are definitely art. People who are not in the industry of paintings or sculptures cannot deem what is art in that field, so the same goes for gaming. Since video games are relatively new, it may take a while for many people to see that games are an art form.

Mini-E3: Small Publishers Left Out
Not only are only 4,000 journalists allowed to attend the new E3, but it looks as if small publishers and developers won't be able to attend either. Support Developers, Buy New
This is not another anti-Gamestop rant, this is a Pro-Developers rant. The simple fact is whenever you save a few bucks to buy a used game, you are denying money to developers. If you really appreciate their product, you should tell them by giving them some of that money.
If you buy used games, all that money goes to the game store. Developers don't see a dime of it and they also don't see records that people are buying ... [read more]

Is like a high-end car?
One of the main arguments that PS3 fanboys say is that the PS3 is like an (insert expensive car name) versus the Wii which is like a (insert name of mass market car name). Granted the more expensive car has more features and is probably more bang for your buck (or more tech for your dollar), but if the video game industry is really like this, then there are real ramifications for gamers and Sony.

Devil May Cry 4 no longer a PS3 exclusive
Here's another nail in PS3's coffin. Pretty much the only thing the Sony had going for it was their big exclusives, and if those former exclusives are going multiplatform, then there's no reason for gamers to buy a PS3 when the Xbox 360 is much cheaper and has the same big titles.

Better technology does not equal success
Sorry, but technology doesn't make the system a success. Neo Geo was ahead of its time, 3DO, heck even Xbox 1 blew PS2 away technologically speaking, but look who won the last race. Wii drought during Q2?
Don't be so sure. Remember Nintendo is under a strict information embargo due to the pending stock trade. Almost all of the upcoming games they talked about, we already knew were coming. Reviewers say it is actually a good Sonic game
Not an awesome game by any means, but definitely a step in the right direction for Team Sonic. Compared to their last few titles, this one hits gold.

The reason why it didn't have voice-overs, or orchestrated sound
The Gamecube disc did not have enough capacity to hold voice-overs or orchestrated sound. Even the Wii version is essentially the Gamecube game with different controls.
When TP was being created, they had to work within the size limitations of the Gamecube disc. The decision to exclude voice-overs and orchestrated sound had to be made early on, so even when the game was being ported to the Wii, they would have to radically change the game to include the extra features, and getting ... Pro: Nintendo holding Wii's to stimulate hype?

Probably
The rumor that surfaced a month before the Wii launch that they could make 9-10 million consoles by the end of the year may not be far off. Economics 101: Scarcity = Hype. Nintendo is letting the system sell-out, but shipping more so customers can still get one if they look hard enough.

Why the Wii will win over hearts of moms
When I was a teenager and I bought a new system (SNES, PS1, N64) my mother always asked why I needed a new system when I already had one. The best reason I could come up with was 'the graphics are better'. My mom shrugged it off, not understanding. But now, with the Wii, we can show her that this system is different.

PS3, 360, Wii price war won't be the same as last generation
The previous generation of game hardware saw price drops by each console matching the amount and date of the competing consoles. However, this new generation's machines are so far apart in price and the consoles are more expensive to manufacture, we can't even hope for a similar trend.

Mega Wii displays at Best Buy will be great for sales
One of the main details that holds back many products is poor retail support. If a product gets a huge display and support from a major retail company, that translates into huge sales.
The positive response from the retail community will be a huge boost for the Wii this holiday season. The more exposure the Wii gets, the more sales and the larger the install base. This will work in a cycle of better retail support because of more sales, and more sales because of bigger support.

If the best graphics mattered, PS2 would have lost
All the people complaining that the Wii won't be able to match graphical wits with PS3 and Xbox360 need a history lesson. Graphics never have, and never will determine how well a console will do. It's all about the games and how much fun you have playing them.
