Handled it better than Sony would have

Well, if it was Sony you'd probably have Kaz telling everyone to get a second job to buy another PS3. Microsoft have extended the warranty from one year to three, and reimbursed everyone who had to pay for repairs outside their original warranties. It's not quite a full recall, but as long as they plan on fixing the design flaw some time soon it should work out roughly the same. (Everyone's 360 fails within the year, they get a new non-defective one under the extended warranty.) They also wrote out a nice apology letter.

Now don't get me wrong - this whole thing is going to be a massive blow to Microsoft, both in terms of replacement costs and in terms of lost face. But the key point is that they aren't being assholes about it, which Sony probably would be under the same circumstances.
