Pro: Playstation 3

Supports: Ps3 is NOT the most expensive console (xbox360 is)...

Couldn't agree More

See my recent post:

The PS3 gets bad press and is off to a slowish start only because of its price.  Poeple want to see Sony fail becuase of its dominace during the last cycle.  The price is about the only thing that you can criticize on the PS3 realitive to its competition, but when you break it down, the price isn't all that bad.

When you consider it has built in wi-fi, a larger hard drive, blu-ray and HDMI it isn't all that expensive.  An XBOX 360 needs a $99 add on to do wi-fi, a $199 add on to play HD movies (now your up to $700) and it still has a slower processor, a smaller HD, and no HDMI.  Also, by the time you add all the accessories, it will clutter your living room with cables.  Sony's online is also free, as opposed to XBL, so even without the add ons, the 360 will cost more in the long run.

If that were not enough, it looks like blu-ray will be the dominant HD home format (judging by its technical superiority and sales of movies so far).  Make your base 360 the elite model and, while you have a 120gb HDD, its now up to about $800 and still has a slower processor, and no HDMI, and a monthy XBL fee.

As an added bonus (at least in the US and Japan) the PS3 is almost 100% backward compatable.  While I love the next gen games, at $60 I only have a couple right now, but I am keeping myself busy playing $10 used PS2 games.  (During the last console cycle I had GCN and Xbox and never had a chance to play God of War or Okami - still great stuff). 360s emulation is not comprehensive.

The Wii, looks to me like a fad. It has last gen graphics, and the controller is, IMHO, a gimmick.  It is selling briskly because parents see the 3 consoles lined up and can't look past $599, $399, and $249. The games are also $10 less.  I can't justify spending $249 on a console with GCN cpabilities and a new controller that the others will probably eventually knock off (sixaxes is also kind of gimmiky).  All of the good 3rd party stuff is 360 and PS3 anyway. (Although I may have to get a Wii for Nintendo's 1st party stuff ...)
