Pro: Playstation 3

you get A LOT for your money with a ps3
as i have stated you indeed get blu-ray technology, meaning not only that you have higher definition games, but you get 50 gb gmes. that is at least 5 times the useable disk space, and the input of technology forces devs to rethink how they make games. it gives them a lot more freedom to do what they want. if they want uncompressed sound then they can, if they want to add extra contect (movie the game was based on or a making of) then it is all there on one disk.
arguably you could use multiple disks, which is something the pc does for cd-rom games, but this is a lot more convenient and we are already getting more content then other systems (rainbow six: vegas).
as you said you buy a gaming console for games, but with the 360 you have watered down color that does not reflect the actual color in the film. the same thing happens on the hd-dvd add-on. the ps3 also upscaled dvd's without needing anything else. and on the 360 you also have to deal with the insanely loud drive that isnt a problem according to microsoft. lastly, my console will not explode because of a bad design. if you check out the disassembly video's on youtube then you can indeed see how well engineered the ps3 actually is. to get back to your point of gaming instandard def, i do have an sdef tv with very old specs and the picture quality is terrible, but i enjoy the picture because it is a leap forward from the ps2.
as for online, have you seen the 2.0 update specs? it will match and arguably beat out xbl. and with things like home and xfire coming to the ps3, i am getting new original titles that cannot be found anywhere else and i am not paying for a yearly fee. not to mention i no longer need to deal with laggy servers, simply because i am playing on servers and not on a peer-to-peer gameplay.
as for games, it all has to do with preference, a big part of gaming for me is the controller that i am using. i have not used the redesined 360 ctrl, but i can say i have been using the ps3 controller for 10+ years. rumble is on the way and it should be here in time with the 100 dollar price cut during the holidays.
one last thing i will mention, the ps3 has a defenite wow factor. it isnt something we have seen before, and if you dont have a psp the interface is completely new. the games are very fun and most have online (or it is on the way). and you have a hardrive to allow devs to use any maximum data size they want. also, you can swap the harddrive for more space when need be and it is very simple.
