The mass market wants simple products at a good price (ex: iPod, Wii, DS). The $600 Sony is asking for the PS3 is not within the means of most consumers. I know Sony will lower the price eventually, but PS2 started out at $300 and the sub-$200 price came pretty quickly. The price drops for the PS3 will take a while to become what seems to be the best market price of $250.
Hardcore gamers will see better value in the Xbox 360 with little visual difference, better online service and more 360 games. The mass market will want the simplicity and the fun parties you can have with the Wii. I don't see much room left for Sony.
