3.3 Million VC Games Sold

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata recently gave official Virtual Console sales numbers and they are excellent. So far, Nintendo has sold 3.3 million virtual console games through the Wii.

These are games that have already made profit as much 20 years ago. Re-coding them to work on the Wii Virtual Console probably took little work and the servers that hold the VC games probably has already been paid off by these numbers. Let's take a look:

3,300,000 X $5.00 (minimum) = $16,500,000

3,300,000 X $10.00 (maximum) = $33,000,000

($33,000,000+$16,500,000)/2 = $24,750,000

I know there are far fewer $10 games than there are $5 games, but there are also $8 SNES games, which I would wager are more popular overall than the NES or N64 games, so I believe my calculations are close.

So approximately $25 million dollars of almost pure profit. Nintendo can use these funds to make the virtual console better, and fund new Wii games. Awesome.
