Con: GDC 2007

No surprises from Nintendo?
Looks like the business side of Nintendo is clashing with the marketing side. They don't bring out Shiggy to make a speech without something big up their sleeves. Now with Microsoft and Sony sure to make some amazing announcements, Nintendo is left with nothing much to say.
Since Nintendo is shooting for the more mainstream consumer with the Wii and DS, most of those people will ever know that no special announcements were made at GDC. However, their hardcore fanbase(including myself), will be disappointed with no new information about many things we have been looking forward to. This will also give the anti-Nintendo crowd more fodder to throw in our faces.
I would assume that one of the huge announcements Nintendo was going to make was either more details about online gameplay on the Wii, or downloadable original titles for the Wii Shop Channel. Both closely pertain to developers, which is what this conference is all about. Developers and hardcore Nintendo fans would love to hear Nintendo's future plans on how either of those features are going to work. Now all we will hear about is past successes and titles present on the game floor.
Now that Nintendo's business division has determined that all future-talk is prohibited at GDC we will have to wait until a later date for more information on the future of the Wii and DS. I am hoping this information 'black-out' doesn't last for too long because it won't be good for Nintendo not to show people what the future holds for their machines when Sony and Microsoft are talking up their forthcoming endeavors. Let's hope this corporate future-speak embargo is lifted soon and we hear some big news about what Nintendo has up its sleeve.
