Con: Is the Wii Remote gimmicky?

As gimmicky as the d-pad
The wiimote is about as gimmicky as the d-pad when it was introduced, or the analogue stick. Just like the wiimote, game controls are just different input devices. If you think the wiimote will become boring to use, you should have counted the millions of times that you pushed a button for a video game. Even the 'gimmicky' rumble technology popularized by Nintendo has become a staple in the generations that followed (except for Sony's current controller situation, taking it out of the PS3 to avoid paying the creators of the dual shock technology).
The success of the Wii will depend on what those wiimote motions accomplish in game. Personally, I'd much rather make a motion with the wiimote, rather than a combination of d-pad directions and buttons presses. Any gamer who says they like games with complicated button combinations is just afraid that all their pathetic hours of perfecting their convoluted combos will be undone by an amateur with a wiimote.
The wiimote is as gimmicky as any input device. The ability of software makers to make good use of this new input device will determine if the Wii succeeds.
