Pro: Console Wars

Critique and Praise

These systems, all have their pros and cons, we all know the major differences between the systems, WII that doesn't have HD graphics, 360 that doesn't have HD drive, and PS3 that supposedly has High End blow out of the water graphics but no one has been able to produce this so far. So what I am going to state here are the praises for each system, and a critique of each system in regards to what has to be done to improve them and improve competition.

WII: No question about it, the WII has brought gaming to everyone, and in an innovative manner, its' Wii mote is pretty much a great innovation in the gaming industry, it's lower price and it's aim of targeting people put off by the HD question has put it well ahead in terms of sales, however, it's continued 3rd party support and sales problems give it a small advantage, far smaller than it should have. More games are sold on systems with less consoles. It's long term success cannot be held on the backs of Mario, Link and mini games.

Xbox 360: It came out a year ahead of the competition and should have cleaned house, HD graphics, amazing controller, and wonderful online gaming, however it's continual problems with the console and now it's online problems are making it a problem to be a leader in this war. It's library of games far surpass it's competition however, great library and console/online connectivity issues hold it back.

PS3: It's responsible for bring HD question to the front, and as well bring great technical specifications to the table of gaming. But with all of this, it's online community is not the best out there, it is just now a year after thinking about allowing players to chat and contact each other while playing games, something 360 did out of the box. Also it dropped the ball on 3rd party exclusivity and allow 360 to get some of it's major franchises, as well its technical superiority also meant that developers have had to learn how to tap into it, which they have not done with major great success as well as an increase in costs for PS3 developement, which could be a reason why many exclusives have going multi-platform.

Each system has to fix these problems, and I do hope they all do fix their problems, I see the WII coming out with a new system WII 2 or an add on (I don't know if it's possible) to keep up with HD graphics in the long run, short term it's ok. With competition we see better games on all system, more exclusive options mean each system needs to improve itself and it's gaming experience. The PS3 and the WII have the issue that many 3rd party devs haven't been able to get a good handle on the motion of the controllers and I hope that with better competition this improves for all. 360 needs to fix it's problems, a great console with to many problems to be a leader and these problems in the long run will hurt it and take it out the competetion.

That's it that's all.
