Sony provides substandard tools

That's the bottom line. Microsoft has been in the software development suite business for a long time. The tools provided to developers are light years ahead of the crap sony provides. Just google 360 and Carmack to see the Id guru's take on the PS3 XBOX360 war.



Because the XBOX software development tools are so much better and snap into a familiar software development product (Visual Studio ) more and more 3rd parties will pick to develop their product for 360 and port it to PS3 if they have enough funds and man power to re-invent the wheel. Current head to head reviews of Call of Duty 3 point out much better graphics on the 360 because to run on the PS3 the resolution had to ramped down to sub HD levels to run smoothly (PS3 & 360 handle graphics ram differently and in many situations 360 will perform better). Then this sub HD resolution is upconverted by hardware - and looks grainy.



While there are development teams out there that have deep pockets & time to spend a lot of time creating a software engine to drive the PS3 well, most want to focus on developing games. The tools Microsoft is providing to 360 developers allow them to just dive in and get amazing results.
