Pro: Super Smash Bros Brawl

Counters: Brawl Might not be so "Smashing"

Fixing what isn't broken.

I hate using cliches.

Still, the phrase makes logical sense this time because Super Smash Bros. isn't broken.  It needs to be refined more than anything, and that's really how it is with most series.  Ratchet and Clank have been starring in what is essentially bigger and more polished versions of the same game (ignoring Ratchet: Deadlocked) but have always been scored well by reviewers and well recieved by gamers.  The same goes for Soul Calibur, Devil May Cry, Guilty Gear, and even Halo.  Certain problems are solved, rough patches are polished, and you are left with the same game with a few new bells and whistles and hopefully a fresh but not unfamiliar experience.  That's the point of franchises.

Brawl looks like it is going to be continuing a great franchise and it would be unfair to label it as a Melee 1.5.  The amount of new content is amazing: already we have 11 brand new (confirmed) characters, 15 new (confirmed) stages, and 9 new (confirmed) items (not including the individual Assist Trophies and Pokemon).  Levels are much more detailed and interactive, returning characters' movesets have been tweaked and the graphics have been overhauled significantly.  The inclusion of the Final Smash technique will also change the gameplay significantly.  All this difference, and I've not even mentioned the Subspace Emmisary, mini games, trophies, stickers, photo shoots, movie recording, and online play/trading of images and movies.

Melee's formula was great, but it was not without a few flaws.  All that Brawl needs to do is adress this.  Perhaps nerf a few characters (or at least a few of their techniques) and beef up some of the painfully underdeveloped others, but it just comes down to giving the fans what they want and that's just more Super Smash Bros.
