it's a money pit.

microsoft reported a 1.9 billion dollar loss from there xbox division THIS YEAR.  xbox's total losses have been estimated between 6 and 10 billion dollars. Facing the facts: if the 360 was owned by any company other then Microsoft, it would be the dreamcast big brother right now. Microsoft may have deep pockets to absorb losses, it doesn't matter. they are in the video game business to make money. unlike ps3 with bluray they don't have any other products relying on xbox's success, they could easily go sega on us at anytime.

 You may be thinking "so what? as long as Microsoft is footing the bill in the mean time".  or "even if it does go sega on us, there's always ps3 and wii".

there are problems with those lines of thought. 1). is that Microsoft won't sink money into their divisions forever. 2). is that these costs not only hobble software, they add unnecessary costs on the consumers end. with a reported loss of 1.9 billion, you shouldn't expect an xbox price drop anytime soon, they need manufacturing prices to drop to save THEM money, not you. 3). is that contrary to fanboy popular notion, the ps3 gamers need the xbox and the xbox gamers need the ps3. console wars drive companies into making superior products and attract more gamers. constant ripping on either system only serves to give your console of choice the excuse to stagnate.

 microsoft needs to fix there hardware issues right friggen now.holiday season xbox's should not be failing by june of next year. They need to step up hardware sales to clear stock like sony is currently doing. contrary to popular notion, the xbox does not have 10million + units sold, they have 10 million units shipped. I'm not saying they should drop the price like sony is, they can't afford that,what they need is new future titles. sure they have mass effect and halo 3 this holiday season, but what good games do they have coming for early 08? halo and mass will sell holiday xbox's, but what is to keep them in the house if microsoft doesn't have follow ups?
