Pro: Xbox 360 Warranty Extension

Counters: Just saying man

Sorry, but Sony's warranty record is worse than Microsoft's

Actually, Sony is just as bad, if not worse than Microsoft in video game machine quality. I worked as a Gamestop manager for many years, so I've seen the quality of product put out by all companies.

First there was the original Playstation. The first generation PS machine explicitly said in the manual not to play it for more then 30 minutes at a time or it may overheat. Then about 2 years after the launch, the original models started to die. About 4 years after launch, I never saw a first model Playstation come in that wasn't broken (yes, people tried to trade in broken systems all the time).

Then there was the PS2. Sony should have learned their lesson with the issues with their first system, right? Nope. The first models of PS2's started to have problems about a year after launch. What was happening was the laser on the disc drive was very slowly falling out of place during use. So, initially the system would stop reading PS1 discs, then DVDs, then finally PS2 games. Sony, once again did nothing.

Oh, and let's not forget the PSP, it had issues too. The square button was too close to the screen, so it would sometimes not register. As a gamer, you could see how frustrating it could be when a button would randomly not work. Also, some of the first models would have their disc drives open during normal play. And for the screen to be considered defective and be eligible for exchange through Sony, it had to have 8 dead pixels, so if your PSP had 7 you were screwed.

So, according to you, Sony would be the good customer service company and fix everyone's machine, right? Nope. I heard countless complaints against Sony's customer service. Sony did nothing the fix any of the original Playstation systems. Sony would not fix the initial batch of PS2 systems, and they actually had a class-action lawsuit against them, which they lost. So far, they have done nothing about the initial PSP issues.

Now I'm just waiting for the 1-2 year mark on the initial PS3's to see what goes wrong with them, and how Sony will hang their initial customers out to dry. To be clear, I like Sony systems. I like the games they have and the hardware they make (first generation excluded). I just always wait until revised hardware comes out before I take the plunge. Sorry, but Sony is much worse than Microsoft at customer service. I'm sure they both only do what they HAVE to do, but at least Microsoft is doing something.
